NATIONAL PROGRAMS

Learn even more about Water Quality by visiting Surfrider Foundation USA. (explore)

Respect the Beach (RTB)
Respect the Beach is an award-winning coastal educational program that includes field trips, classroom lectures, handouts, video, and hands-on projects designed to educate K-12 students and community groups on coastal watershed processes, shoreline ecology and coastal areas stewardship. The Respect the Beach program is brought into classrooms by Surfrider members, who represent ocean environmentalism from the surfer's perspective, and who are role models that students can relate to.

Blue Water Task Force (BWTF)
The Blue Water Task Force is the Surfrider Foundation’s water quality monitoring, education and advocacy program. It is utilized by our Chapters and members to alert citizens and community officials to water quality problems and work toward solutions. BWTF has demonstrated success by raising public awareness of coastal water pollution levels and precipitating the establishment of state and local government water quality monitoring programs in many communities where the program has been implemented.

Rashguard.org
The Surfrider Foundation's greatest strength is our grassroots, community-based focus and our ability to act as local activists for the protection of the coast. The mission of the Rashguard.org website is to provide the beach-going public with current beach water quality information via an informative website that is freely accessible, easy-to-use, and fast-loading.

Beachscape
Beachscape is a flagship Surfrider Foundation program inspired by Surfrider Australia's state-of-the-beach and beachscape-type work that the Aussies have been doing for years.

The Surfrider USA Beachscape program utilizes the knowledge of its membership base to characterize coastal areas on a local level. Tapping this community resource enables the Beachscape program to establish an accurate and credible baseline of coastal conditions that is widely available to local citizens, community activists, state and federal agencies. Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to store, analyze and publish these geographic datasets, the Beachscape program illustrates cumulative trends and improves information that can promote sustainable coastal resource management. This program not only generates data to support coastal stewardship; it empowers local citizens with the information and skills they need to be effective advocates for coastal resource protection in their communities.

SNOWRIDER PROJECT
The Snowrider Project was launched by the Surfrider Foundation in 1997 to bring greater understanding of the hydrological cycle (the foundation for the intimate environmental connection between snow, land and surf) and foster a sense of stewardship towards alpine and valley watersheds. While the Snowrider Project was initially conceived to give snowboarders and skiers a vehicle for environmental activism, the range of participants has expanded to include kayakers, canoeists, back-country adventurers and others who appreciate the sanctity of a clean, connected system.
